The writer and playwright died this Sunday at the age of eighty-nine in Peru, his native country. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012 and is considered one of the great writers of the second half of the 20th century. He was one of the great names of Castilian literature and gained mainstream recognition thanks to titles such as La Ciudad y los Perros and Conversación en la Catedral. During his career, he also received the Cervantes Prize and the Prince of Asturias Award.

The Nobel Prize in Literature visited Menorca in the summer of 2012 with the aim of discovering the island’s most emblematic sites and its traditions.
